The Leprosy Mission Trust India, the Indian chapter of a global charitable organization, is the largest NGO working with patients of leprosy disease in India. Founded in 1874, TLMTI’s team of more than 900 is active across the country through multiple programs and services, helping people with not only leprosy but also other neglected tropical diseases (NTD’s). The organization’s work through their pillars of Healthcare, Sustainable Livelihood, Community Empowerment, Advocacy and Communication, and Research and Training is delivered through infrastructure across the country which includes 16 hospitals, six vocational training centers for those who have been affected by the disease, four residential care homes for elderly persons affected by leprosy, nine community empowerment projects, and a molecular research laboratory.
TLMTI also holds sensitisation and awareness sessions when they place someone professionally within a company. Many of the people TLMTI works with have been living on charity and the organization’s ethos is rooted in not only providing assistance and care but to replace the charity mindset with empowerment, and to help them learn a vocation. Most notably, TLMTI has done this by setting up factories, and encouraging those affected to learn a skill and to create a sustainable livelihood.
Project Leprosy Empowerment and Awareness Drive is deeply honored to have TLMTI as its partner, and together, we hope to create a brighter, healthier future for all.
